With the arrival of the Corona virus, the Street Colors Bonaire project got a different start than planned. But we've started! With about 15 enthusiastic and talented young people, we have brainstormed, sketched, painted and experimented over the past week. In June we start with the first real mural at the community centre in Nort'i Saliña.
Street Colors Bonaire is a streetart project of Fundashon Plataforma Kultural and will run until the summer of 2021. It creates a collaboration between the art collective Rewriters Rotterdam, Bonerian young people and artists and will provide an educational program for the students of MBO. The aim of this project is to give young people the opportunity to develop their talents and learn from professional artists. To put street art on Bonaire on the (digital) map and to give it a place in the Bonerian society.
Since the start of the project in February, about 15 young people have signed up at Hòfi Kultural. All enthusiastic, inquisitive and talented. Together with 5 coaches, artists of the island, they will paint the first walls on Bonaire. The street artists from Rotterdam we were expecting had to delay their arrival but we hope to welcome our first guest in October.
This is our schedule: In June, everyone can follow us while we're working at the community center in Nort'i Saliña. In August and September, the project's talent group will visit various artists and studios on Bonaire. We are starting the educational program at the MBO in September as well and in October we expect our first international artist and then we will paint many more walls. Something we've already begun is our mural hunting. To capture all the murals of Bonaire digitally, we first have to locate them. Join us, hunt for our murals and share them via Instagram with #huntingmuralsbonaire..
Street Colors Bonaire is made possible by financial support from Fonds 21, Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie and Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire.
