Kompañá nos Grandinan

Kompañá nos Grandinan is a “buddy project” of Fundashon Plataforma Kultural and focuses on the elderly of Bonaire, who would like to have some more personal attention.

Kompañá nos Grandinan; the name of the project says it all; “Together with the elderly / for the elderly”. The project links volunteers with vulnerable elderly people on Bonaire. Elderly people who need contact, but cannot always rely on friends or family for this. And just now, during the corona crisis, the loneliness among this group is big, and this project is starting at Hòfi Kultural.

“Older people become isolated because the facilities on the island are inadequate. Public transport is bad, elderly people do not leave the house. Usually they live with one of their children or children live with them. Yet they are lonely, because everyone is making money away from home.”

Personal contact is important for everyone. And a volunteer can help break the loneliness. The volunteer pays a weekly visit to an elderly person, has a chat, takes a walk or a car ride to the boulevard and offers a listening ear. That is not only nice for the elderly, but also provides the volunteer with a wonderful experience.

The elderly participating in this project are carefully chosen and approached. Kompañá nos Grandinan works closely with specialists and healthcare organizations.

The volunteers can count on support from the project. They receive advice and can share their experiences with other volunteers (intervision).
